"Do you think anything more is requisite to ensure success than moderate abilities and a good share of perseverance? I believe I may lay claim to these, together with a real love of the subjects of study, but as regards any thorough knowledge of these subjects at present, I fear I am deficient in most." — Edith Pechey (One of Britain’s pioneering women physicians and a passionate advocate for women’s rights)
There is something undeniably beautiful about the color of chocolate — deep, warm, and quietly luxurious. It feels especially seductive when paired with lace: something delicate against something rich, softness meeting depth. Lace is stepping firmly back into the fashion conversation, but this time it feels less traditionally romantic and much more modern, sensual, and effortless. Sophisticated. I find myself drawn to chocolate-brown tones and intricate lace, a combination that feels romantic without being overly sweet.

A quiet afternoon, coffee, a piece of chocolate. A lace-trimmed silhouette. And a book waiting to be opened. Finally I have time to read on my kindle again. There is something strangely comforting about getting lost in medical literature — like the one I am currently reading, Women in White Coats: How the First Women Doctors Changed the World of Medicine by Olivia Campbell. One moment reading something beautifully written, the next highlighting a passage from a medical paper or returning to a chapter that requires a second, slower read. I like that kind of reading — the kind that asks something of you. Perhaps this is what I love most about reading: the feeling of becoming slightly different with every page. A book leaves something behind — a thought, a question, a fragment of knowledge. Soft textures, deep colors, quiet pages — a little beauty, a little knowledge, and an afternoon entirely my own.
